Fun for Fun’s Sake
Aaaaah….after months of very, very, very (very, very) focused Showcase act creation & rehearsal, I had my first 100% fun class last night.  I forgot what it’s like to curse under your breath during trapeze conditioning.  Heaven…pure heaven. In addition to yelling at us (in his inimitable and ever-so-endearing style), CSLA instructor Joe P. taught us a new trick (NEW TRICKS!...

Showcase Inspiration Submission by Jennifer...
After a last minute act change, we ended up with an alien beatnik concept.  I have no idea what an alien beatnik actually looks like, but I’m imagining she lives on the West Bank of Mars and looks like a cross between… …Jean Seberg …Mary Quaint …and Peggy Moffitt …if all three of them came from a race of shiny green aliens. So yeah.  There’s...

5-Year Anniversary!
Cirque School is 5 years old this month!  In celebration, I wanted to share a couple of pictures from the move-in.  Surreal to see the school virtually empty when it has been bustling and bustling, especially as of late.  Pictures courtesy of CS teach, Rick Andreoli. * KP

Showcase Inspiration Submission by Malia...
Lucinda and I were luckily on the same page with look concepts from the get-go.  While music was ever evolving, Rex coined us, “The white girls on the soul album cover.”. Or the mixed girl in my case!  More Megan than Betty for you current season ‘Mad Men’ watchers. While trying to keep certain aspects of the period, our costumes also need to be functional for our...

Showcase Inspiration Submission by Pam Jaffe
This is my fourth showcase and as usual, it’s an ever-evolving process.  The concept, music, hair, costume and make up all change twenty two times before the actual day and this time there’s a specific theme.  Eeeek!  My partner Alison has let my imagination run all over the place and she hasn’t even rolled her eyes at me.  For that I sincerely thank her. Although, I think my excitement about $9...

I make [my own] boards.
I tried using pinterest for my inspiration board for this showcase. It was a bit of a fail for my brain. I like to be able to move the pins around, see the board as a whole, basically have ultimate control of everything even when I should let go like Julia from ‘Parenthood.’  So, our song has changed multiple times (normal) and by default as has our costume/make-up situation.  This is...
