In Honor of Troupe Vertigo’s ‘Nighthawks’

If there’s anything I love almost as much as trapeze, it’s film noir and hardboiled crime fiction.  Needless to say, I am really looking forward to Troupe Vertigo’s show this weekend!!  In anticipation, I present to you one of my favorite movies of all time: The Killing.  Released in 1956, The Killing was not only directed by Stanley Kubrick, but also features dialog by none other than Jim Thompson (and in my opinion is a pitch-perfect execution of the snappy dames and cons repartee I’d always heard in my head when reading Thompson’s novels).   Did I mention the cast?  Timothy Carey, Marie Windsor, Elisha Cook Jr., Sterling Hayden and so on and so forth.  It’s like my dream ensemble!  Marie Windsor’s Sherry Peatty is probably my all-time favorite so-bad-she’s-good bleach blonde broad in this movie.  I can’t wait to see how Troupe Vertigo translates this in the air…and I KNOW it’s gonna be great!
