Saw this headline in the elevator at work. Yes, there are televisions in elevators now. That was never a thing. Why has that become a thing?
Megastunts: Highwire over Niagara Falls LIVE!
Anyhoots, this guy, Nik Wallenda (7th generation of the circus Wallendas) is high wire walking over the Niagara falls tonight! At night! It’s weird that they call him a “daredevil.” Does that mean all circus people are daredevils? Am I a daredevil? If being afraid of waters (including pools) 12 ft and deeper because of shark attacks is what daredevils do, then yes!

As a student, I’m inspired by the rigorous training that circus professionals endure in preparation for performances; their dedication completely astounds me and I’m awed (just AWED) by what the human body can accomplish. As for the extremes accomplished by wire walkers…YOW. Seriously - just LOOK at the photo!
This interview with Nik Wallenda (yes, of THE Wallendas) is a great quick read and since it’s Popular Mechanics, it also provides a very satisfying overview of the logistics of high wire rigging!
Also…(plug, plug), CSLA’s very own rad wire walker Tim is back in town, so classes are starting up again! Thankfully, I think balancing on the Ferris Wheel at the Santa Cruz beach boardwalk is graduate-level wire-walking.
